Jeremy Allen White, known for his Emmy-winning roles, has officially earned his high school diploma at age 34.
The “Shameless” star shared the story during an Oct. 23 appearance on “Live With Kelly and Mark,” explaining that he struggled in high school. Attending a Manhattan drama school, White admitted he often skipped class and didn’t pay much attention in school. “We would have lunch, and we could leave the school at lunch and go eat wherever we’d like. But oftentimes, I would just leave at lunch and never come back,” he said. He added that he would spend time in Central Park or hang out in Brooklyn when his parents weren’t home.
Because of his frequent absences, White didn’t have enough credits to graduate. However, after inviting his former drama teacher, Greg Parente, to the New York Film Festival premiere of his latest film, “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere,” he received a surprise. Parente, a big Springsteen fan, gave White a gift at the end of the night—which turned out to be his high school diploma.
White said, “As of last night, at 34 years old, I’ve graduated high school.” His film, portraying Bruce Springsteen, is now playing in theaters.
