Texas woman charged with medical child abuse for falsifying toddler’s health and pushing unnecessary feeding tube surgeries A Texas woman has been charged with medical child abuse after allegedly falsifying her toddler’s medical history to pressure doctors into performing unnecessary procedures, including feeding tube surgeries, in what authorities are calling a “sickening” case. Kaitlyn Rose Laura, 31, faces charges of injury to a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officials said she deliberately misled medical staff about her 3-year-old son’s health to obtain a gastrostomy tube and later a gastrojejunostomy tube, despite no documented medical need.  Protesters confront police outside Illinois ICE center

Authorities detained nearly a dozen people Friday morning as protests continued outside an immigration processing facility in Broadview, a Chicago suburb. Illinois State Police, equipped with helmets, face shields, and wooden batons, were seen pushing back demonstrators. The facility has been the site of frequent confrontations between federal agents and protesters, and fencing that previously surrounded the property had recently been removed.

The clashes follow a judge’s order Thursday requiring federal officers to wear body cameras during immigration operations, responding to concerns over previous confrontations. Despite the ruling, some protesters expressed skepticism that the cameras would hold agents accountable. U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis said she was alarmed by reports that officers used tear gas against the public and wants all ICE and Border Patrol agents involved in “Operation Midway Blitz” to have cameras activated during enforcement actions. A Justice Department attorney noted that not all officers are equipped with cameras and cited the ongoing government shutdown as a barrier to compliance. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker praised the ruling, emphasizing the need for accountability. Additional protests are expected this weekend, with local authorities relying on the new body camera requirement and village-imposed crowd restrictions to help maintain order.
