South African Amapiano duo Mapara A Jazz, best known for their 2020 hit “John Vuli Gate,” have reportedly been kidnapped in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, according to a distress post shared on their official Facebook page.
The musicians are said to have left South Africa on Friday, 24 October 2025, for a scheduled performance in Ethiopia. Approximately 10 to 12 hours ago, a concerning post appeared on their Facebook account, reading:
“We are kidnapped in Ethiopia ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ – at Bole Medhanialem, Addis Ababa.”
The post was accompanied by a pinned map location in the Bole district near the airport and a photo showing one member with facial injuries and blood stains on his t-shirt and neck, indicating that they may have been assaulted.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the incident, but screenshots of the post have since circulated widely on social media, prompting calls for urgent intervention from South African officials.
