Somali World Cup Referee Denied Entry to United States Award-winning Somali referee, Omar Artan, has been denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa, according to a senior official in Somalia’s sports ministry. Artan, who is set to become the first Somali referee to officiate at the FIFA World Cup finals, was stopped at Miami International Airport and subsequently returned to Istanbul, where he had been residing. The reason for the denial was not immediately disclosed. However, Somalia is among the countries affected by a travel ban introduced by the administration of Donald Trump. Reacting to the development, Ciise Aden Abshir, a senior adviser to Somalia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and a former national team captain, described Artan as one of Africa’s most respected referees. “Omar Artan is among Africa’s most respected referees and deserves the support of the entire football community,” Abshir told AFP on Monday. A 5-YEAR-OLD BOY WHO WAS STAYING WITH FAMILY IN INDIANAPOLIS HAS DIED FROM A SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND.(PHOTO)

A 5-year-old boy who was staying with family in Indianapolis has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Indianapolis Metro Police were called to a home on the Stone Ridge Apartments at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Thanksgiving day.

Officers were responding to the report of a person shot. However, responding officers would be shocked and heartbroken when they discovered the victim.

Officers discovered 5-year-old Andreas Woodland suffering from what appeared to be an accidental self-inflicted gunshot.

The child's devastated family stood by as the child was rushed to a nearby hospital.  Sadly, Andreas was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Andreas's parents were not present at the time of the accident. Andreas was under the care of a relative. However, the exact relationship is not clear.

Police conducted interviews with several adults present at the time of the shooting. Police say the family has fully cooperated with the investigation.

Indianapolis PD officer, Tommy Thompson, hopes that this tragedy serves as a reminder for gun owners to store them safely out of the reach of children.  He is quoted saying, "You can't take a bullet back once it's left the gun and, in this instance, a child got a hold of a firearm. We got to do better as adults."

He reminds residents of Marion County, Indiana, that free gun locks are available at the Marion County Library. Please go get your free lock today.

Our thoughts are with the family of Andreas Woodland.
