11-year-old Cole Frazee was waiting in the parking lot at the local Family Dollar in Markleysburg, PA, when he began to become impatient.
Cole decided to exit the vehicle in order to see what was taking his father so long. Cole did not realize that this decision would soon have him running for his life.
Cole was walking towards the store when he noticed a black bear staring at him. All of a sudden, the bear began to charge directly towards Cole.
Cole says, "When it runs after me, I turn around, I run in the store; I'm screaming and stuff. The thing was like a foot and a half away from me."
After entering the store, Cole ran up and down the aisles, attempting to elude the rampaging beast. He finally made his way to the front of the store where the cashier was standing and got behind the counter with the cashier.
When the bear's attention went elsewhere for just a second, the two took the opportunity to jump the counter and flee the store. A surveillance video captures the bear hurdling over the counter mere seconds after the brave pair made their escape.
Once outside, Cole and the cashier rushed to lock themselves into the relative safety of the cashier's car.
As the two waited in the car, the bear spent 10 minutes browsing the aisles before letting himself back out of the store and disappearing back into the wild.
According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, bears are desperately foraging for food this time of year, and this can lead to potentially dangerous encounters with humans.
New fear unlocked.
