Double-decker bus crash in Sweden leaves multiple dead

A double-decker bus crashed into a bus facility in Stockholm on Friday, killing several people and leaving multiple others seriously injured, Swedish authorities said. The crash occurred around 3 p.m. in the Ostermalm district near Valhallavägen, close to the Royal Institute of Technology. Police confirmed the bus’s sole occupant, the driver, was arrested, but they have not released an exact number of casualties. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed his condolences on X, noting that the victims “may have been on their way home to family, friends or a quiet evening at home.” The bus, owned by France-based transport company Transdev, was reportedly not in service at the time of the crash. Authorities have cordoned off the area as police and rescue teams carry out their work. Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch said she is closely monitoring the situation and in contact with relevant authorities. Police are investigating the incident as a possible case of aggravated or involuntary manslaughter, while Kristersson urged the public to respect the difficult tasks facing emergency responders.
