ENUGU CP PRESENTS PAPER AT UNN SECURITY SUMMIT, URGES INSTITUTIONS TO LEAD SCIENTIFIC AND INNOVATIVE SECURITY SOLUTIONS

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has called on the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and other academic institutions across the country to take the lead in developing scientific and innovative mechanisms that will enhance effective security operations in Nigeria.

CP Giwa made the call today, 15th November 2025, while presenting a paper at a security summit organized by the University of Nigeria Consultancy Services Limited and held at the Princess Alexandra Auditorium, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

In his paper titled “Scientific and Innovative Approaches to Effective Security Operations in Small Areas: A Focus on the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)”, the CP, represented by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, emphasized the critical role of science and innovation in tackling contemporary security challenges, particularly within small environments such as university communities.

He stated that “over time, traditional reactive approaches have become increasingly insufficient in addressing complex and evolving security threats within university and larger society settings. Hence, the need for a comprehensive, intelligence-driven and community-engaged security model.” He further noted that one of the most effective ways to achieve this is through the advancement of technological knowledge and transfer by universities and academic institutions in Nigeria.

The event was graced by notable stakeholders in security and academia, including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, and the respective chairmen of Nsukka and Udenu LGAs, Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa and Aka Eze Aka. Also in attendance were the Director of UNN Consultancy Services, Prof. Emmanuel Nwosu, retired security chiefs, security personnel, including members of the UNN Security Department, as well as the leadership of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) and a large number of students.

The attendees commended the insights shared during the summit, describing them as a blueprint for enhancing campus security through science and innovation.
