Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. First Lady Donates 10,000 Sanitary Pads to Schoolgirls in Oyo State

As part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has donated 10,000 sanitary pads to schoolgirls across Oyo State to promote menstrual health and reduce school absenteeism. Represented by Mrs. Tamunomini Makinde, wife of the Oyo State Governor, the First Lady emphasized that no girl should miss school due to lack of access to sanitary products.

The donation, made in Ibadan, targets girls in all 33 local government areas and is part of a nationwide campaign to distribute 370,000 pads. The initiative aims to empower girls with dignity, confidence, and equal access to education, especially in rural communities where many resort to unsafe alternatives or drop out due to menstrual challenges.

The pads, procured from a local manufacturer at a cost of ₦2.55 billion, are not to be sold. Local government chairmen, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders were urged to support and monitor the distribution to ensure it reaches the intended beneficiaries.

Mrs. Tinubu called on corporate organizations and citizens to support the “Flow with Confidence” program, reinforcing the message that menstrual health is essential to girls’ education and well-being.
