Nigeria’s G20 Stance Anchored on National Priorities and Global Equity – Tuggar

Nigeria’s participation at the G20 Summit in South Africa was firmly rooted in its national interests and a broader vision for a more equitable global economic system, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar. In a statement released by his media aide, Tuggar emphasized that Nigeria’s engagement was guided by its commitment to debt sustainability, responsible mineral governance, and inclusive development.

Delivering President Bola Tinubu’s message at the summit, Vice President Kashim Shettima called on global leaders to prioritize policies that prevent debt traps and ensure that mineral wealth benefits local communities. He stressed that sustainable development cannot thrive under exploitative economic structures that perpetuate inequality.

Nigeria’s delegation urged the G20 to support a fair global framework for critical mineral extraction and trade, positioning Africa not just as a resource supplier but as a hub for industrial transformation and innovation. The summit’s theme—“A Fair and Just Future for All”—resonated with Nigeria’s investments in youth

empowerment, technology, and decent work under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tuggar also congratulated South Africa for hosting the first G20 Summit on African soil, calling it a historic affirmation of the continent’s growing role in global governance.
