 Alleged $1.5m Fraud:   Witness Tells Court Funds Came into Defendant’s Account in Multiple Tranches The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, June 29, 2026, presented its third prosecution witness (PW3), Levi Amanda Opice, a Compliance Officer with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), in the ongoing trial of Ifoma Immanuel before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja, over an alleged $1.5 million fraud. Immanuel is standing trial alongside his company, Intermediate Investment Holdings Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and forgery involving the sum of $1.5 million.  Peter Obi Pledges to Cover N4,741,400 for 148 Prisoners to Write NECO Exams


‎Social media users have flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions after news broke that Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and prominent figure in the Labour Party, has pledged to cover the examination fees of several inmates preparing to take the NECO exams.

‎Obi revealed this gesture in a post shared on his official X account on Saturday, December 6, 2025. In his statement, he explained that he was contacted by a group of representatives acting on behalf of the inmates, who appealed for financial assistance to enable them register for the upcoming examinations.

‎He disclosed that the registration fee amounts to ₦30,050 per candidate, and he has committed a total of ₦4,741,400, which will fully sponsor 148 inmates. According to Obi, this support is part of his ongoing commitment to promoting education, which he described as a vital pillar for individual growth and societal development.

‎In his message, he added:

‎"I will send a formal letter to the representatives on Monday to confirm that the fees will be settled, ensuring the inmates are able to participate in the exams. I also expressed my intention to collaborate with friends and supporters to help offset the expenses."
