ZIMBABWEAN COUPLE DEPORTED OVER SECRET BURIAL OF CHILD IN BOTSWANA A Zimbabwean couple has been deported from Botswana after secretly burying their child without notifying authorities. Motilinah Mpofu and Christopher Ncube were convicted on Thursday of concealing a death after they allegedly dug a grave for their child in the dead of night. The Gaborone court heard the child had died suddenly. Instead of reporting the death to police, health officials, or traditional leaders, the couple quietly buried the youngster and hoped no one would find out. But the secret did not stay buried for long.   Police moved in and arrested the pair. In sentencing, the court ordered that the couple be taken to the Plumtree Border Post for deportation to Zimbabwe.  Top Botswana lawyer Winnie Masitha who offered the couple free legal representation during the trial, confirmed the deportation to BTV News. Masitha believed that the matter should not be viewed only through the lens of crim...

MOTHER'S WARNING SAVES DAUGHTER FROM SUSPECTED ABDUCTION IN MAKURDI

A timely warning by a Makurdi resident, Mrs Janice Ngumom Pine, on Monday saved her daughter from a suspected abduction attempt by a commercial motorcyclist in Benue State.

The incident, which occurred around the Wurukum axis of Makurdi, followed a disturbing story Mrs Pine had earlier read on social media about a woman who narrowly escaped being killed after being lured to Awe Street by a motorcyclist.

Moved by the account, Mrs Pine said she immediately forwarded the story to her daughter, advising her to be vigilant while commuting.

According to her, the warning proved crucial when her daughter boarded a motorcycle from Gboko Road to High Level. As they approached Wurukum, the rider allegedly requested permission to divert to Awe Street to pick up a parcel.

She said the mention of Awe Street instantly raised alarm, prompting her daughter to recall the earlier caution.

In response, the young woman told the rider that her mother had instructed her to buy an item from Sudo Pee Supermarket, which was nearby.

“The rider agreed and took her to the supermarket but insisted on waiting for her so they could proceed to Awe Street,” Mrs Pine said.

She added that her daughter offered the rider N500 to leave, but he refused and insisted on waiting. Feeling unsafe, the young woman entered the supermarket and called her mother for help.

Mrs Pine further alleged that the rider followed her daughter briefly and made a remark in Tiv, suggesting he allowed her go because she was a “good Tiv girl,” before eventually leaving.

Disturbed by the encounter, Mrs Pine said she decided to share the experience to alert the public, warning that such threats were real and closer than many people assumed.

“These stories are not exaggerated. Awareness and quick thinking can save lives,” she said, urging residents, especially young women, to remain vigilant while using commercial motorcycles.
