 ZIMBABWEAN COUPLE DEPORTED OVER SECRET BURIAL OF CHILD IN BOTSWANA A Zimbabwean couple has been deported from Botswana after secretly burying their child without notifying authorities. Motilinah Mpofu and Christopher Ncube were convicted on Thursday of concealing a death after they allegedly dug a grave for their child in the dead of night. The Gaborone court heard the child had died suddenly. Instead of reporting the death to police, health officials, or traditional leaders, the couple quietly buried the youngster and hoped no one would find out. But the secret did not stay buried for long.   Police moved in and arrested the pair. In sentencing, the court ordered that the couple be taken to the Plumtree Border Post for deportation to Zimbabwe.  Top Botswana lawyer Winnie Masitha who offered the couple free legal representation during the trial, confirmed the deportation to BTV News. NIGERIA POLICE FORCE CONGRATULATES RETIRED DIG GODWIN CHIJIOKE NWOBODO, ON HIS CORONATION AS IGWE OF IHUEZE-NNEWE AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITIES


The Nigeria Police Force extends warmest congratulations to Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo, fdc, on his coronation as the traditional ruler (Igwe) of Ihueze-Nnewe Autonomous Communities, Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.


The coronation of Retired DIG Nwobodo, which took place on Saturday, 27th December 2025, is a well-deserved honour that reflects his lifetime of exemplary service, integrity, and commitment to leadership, both in public service and community development. His elevation to the revered traditional stool stands as an affirmation of the confidence reposed in his character, wisdom, and capacity to lead.


Retired DIG Nwobodo joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1984 and rendered over three decades of distinguished service in various operational, administrative, and leadership capacities across the country. He served creditably as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in several Police Divisions nationwide, where he demonstrated professionalism and exemplary leadership. He later served as Director of Courses at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, contributing significantly to the training and mentorship of police officers.


He rose to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, where he was entrusted with the leadership of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Force Headquarters, Abuja. In that capacity, he played a notable role in advancing the integration of technology into policing operations and administration within the Force.

Retired DIG Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo retired meritoriously from the Nigeria Police Force on 12th August 2019, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, discipline, and institutional contribution. His transition from national service to traditional leadership marks a continuation of his lifelong commitment to service, now directed towards fostering peace, unity, cultural preservation, and sustainable development within his community.


The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, expresses confidence that His Royal Highness, Igwe Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo, fdc, will bring his wealth of experience in leadership, conflict management, and governance to bear in the discharge of his royal responsibilities.
