The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday. NBA bans two fans for life after court intrusion during Game 1 of NBA Finals involving Victor Wembanyama

The NBA has issued lifetime bans to two individuals following a court intrusion during Game 1 of the NBA Finals, after one fan ran onto the floor and appeared to take a selfie near San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.

One of the individuals was arrested shortly after entering the court area during the fourth quarter of the game between the Spurs and New York Knicks. The league also banned a second fan for involvement in the incident, though officials did not specify the nature of that person’s actions.

According to a league statement, the fan who entered the court “will be banned for life from all NBA arenas,” and a second individual “will also receive a lifetime ban for his role in the incident.”

The fan ran onto the court from the sideline opposite the benches and moved into the Spurs’ offensive end before being quickly removed by security personnel. There was no indication of physical contact with Wembanyama or any players.

Wembanyama said he was unsure how to respond in the moment.

“I’ve never been in that situation,” he said. “I didn’t know how to act.”

Play was halted for just over a minute before resuming with a jump ball after the fan was escorted off the court through a baseline tunnel.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson downplayed the disruption, saying security handled the situation quickly and the game moved on without issue.
