 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. LASG WARNS AGAINST INDISCRIMINATE CLOSURE OF ROADS WITHOUT APPROVAL.#PRESS RELEASE.

      The Lagos State Government has warned against the indiscriminate closure of public roads by Communities and Construction companies in the State without recourse to the Ministry of Transportation for approval.
A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Taiwo Olufemi Salaam cautioned against the trend, insisting that Section 44 (2) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018 grants only the Honourable Commissioner or the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transportation rights to approve such closure.
The release reiterated that it constitutes a serious offence for any individual or group, company or contractor, representatives of any Ministry or Local Government to engage in road closure without recourse to the Transportation Ministry and affirmed government’s resolve to address all issues on traffic management and transportation.
The Permanent Secretary also urged members of the public to allow easy access and free flow of traffic on the roads, saying the State government will not leave any stone unturned in dealing severely with anyone found guilty of unauthorised closure of any road(s).
