 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. FRSC Raises Alarm Over Attacks On Personnel

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed concern over increasing attacks on officers and men during operations.

The Corps Commandant, Akinwumi Fasakin who stated this at the commencement of the Ember Months Campaign in Abuja, appealed to motorists to desist from the act.

The FRSC Corps Commandant underscored need for motorists particularly commercial drivers to always ascertain their health status.

Commandant Fasaki who represented the FRSC Corps Marshal Dauda Ali-Biu assured that the Corps would continue to come up with initiatives and policies on safety for all road users in the country.

FCT Sector Commander, Mr Muta’a Chorrie while speaking on the theme ‘Speed Thrills but Kills; Drive Responsibly and Avoid Overloading”, appealed to motorists to always abide by traffic rules and regulations.

The Sector Commander expressed worry over the spate of accidents along Lugbe-Airport Road as a result of non-compliance with traffic rules.

According to him, non-usage of pedestrian bridges along the Airport corridor contributes to death of road users daily by ”Hit and Run” drivers.

FCT Minister, Nyensom Wike who was represented by the Mandate Secretary Transport Secretariat, Ubokutom Nyah, said the administration would continue to upgrade road infrastructure to promote seamless traffic flow, pointing out that no fewer than 135 bad roads are being rehabilitated.

The Secretary, FCT tricycle operators, Nasir Umar commended the FRSC for providing weekly sensitization to the operators on rules guiding their operations in the six area councils of the territory.

Representatives of other traffic management agencies pledged their commitment to the success of this year’s Ember Months Campaign.
