 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Troops neutralise 4 suspected bandits, arrest 120 others in Plateau, Kaduna




Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) Special Military Task Force maintaining peace in Plateau and parts of Bauchi and Kaduna states, have neutralised four suspected bandits.


Capt. James Oya, the Media Officer of the operation made this known in a statement on Monday in Jos.


The troops, he said, also arrested 120 others over various criminal acts within its areas of operation between Oct. 16 and Oct. 22.


Oya said that some of the suspects were arrested for alleged kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling and drug peddling, among other criminal acts.


He explained that other suspects were arrested over illegal possession of arms and ammunitions, adding that it rescued four kidnapped victims during the operation.


“Within the period under review, we neutralised four suspected bandits, arrested 73 suspects with arms and ammunition and 37 others for kidnapping.


“We rescued four kidnapped victims, arrested two suspected cattle rustlers and four suspected drugs peddlers.


“We prevented five attacks on vulnerable communities and promptly responded to 28 distress,” he said.


The troops, he added, also recovered sophisticated weapons from some of the suspects.


He said some suspects who were arrested for car and motorcycle theft have been handed over to police for prosecution.
