A WOMAN WITH NO PILOT TRAINING SUCCESSFULLY LANDED AN AIRPLANE AFTER HER PILOT HUSBAND SUFFERED A FATAL MID-FLIGHT HEART ATTACK. (PHOTO).

A woman with no pilot training successfully landed an airplane after her pilot husband suffered a fatal mid-flight heart attack.

78-year-old Eliot Alper and his wife, 69-year-old Yvonne Kinane-Wells, flew out of Henderson Executive Airport on October 4th. Their destination was Monterey Regional Airport in Monterey, California.  Unfortunately they would suffer an unexpected and tragic detour.

At some point during the flight Eliot suffered a heart attack and became incapacitated. Yvonne was forced to take over the controls of the twin-engine Beechcraft King Air 90. Yvonne was able to contact air-traffic control and successfully land the airplane with their assistance. In the released audio you can hear Yvonne being instructed on how to change course and altitude in order to land at Meadows Field in Bakesfield, CA.

When Yvonne successfully touched down at 1:40 p.m. she was chased down the runway by EMS who rushed Eliot to a nearby hospital. Sadly Eliot Alper would pass away later that day.

First responders and airport personal say that Yvonne being able to maintain her composure and successfully land the plane while her husband suffered a medical emergency is unprecedented and incredible.

Our thoughts are with all of Eliot's loved ones. Also, great job Yvonne. That had to be incredibly stressful and hard to do.
