Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. However, Meta has not clarified whether the Instagram decision affects Messenger, which is still in the proc...

British influencer dies after fall from Spain’s highest bridge

A British influencer has tragically died after falling from Spain’s highest bridge. The 26-year-old digital creator, whose name remains undisclosed by the police, fell from the 630ft Castilla-La Mancha bridge in Talavera de la Reina, situated about 90 minutes southwest, at 7:15am on Sunday.

He was with a 24-year-old English companion who was unharmed but left in a state of shock, local police reported. Footage from the scene showed police cordoning off the area where the fall occurred.

Police and firefighters arrived swiftly after the accident was reported, but were unable to save him.

A National Police spokesman for Toledo province, which includes Talavera de la Reina, stated: “He was about 40 to 50 metres up, around a quarter of the bridge’s total height, when he fell. The cause of the fall is unclear and will be investigated by a local court.”

An investigation source revealed both men were climbing without harnesses or protection. A passing motorist raised the alarm. The surviving companion was initially speechless and remains traumatised, but is no longer at the police station. He faces no criminal charges, though local authorities may consider sanctions.

The Castilla-La Mancha bridge, the highest in Spain and the second-highest in Europe, was the site of the incident. Investigators will examine whether heavy rain in Talavera de la Reina prior to the fall made conditions more slippery. It remains uncertain if the two Brits had come to Spain specifically to film the bridge climb, but they had been using a rental car.

Local councillor Macarena Munoz confirmed the tragedy, emphasising that accessing the bridge is strictly prohibited. “We have made it clear on several occasions that it’s not something that can be done in any circumstances,” she stated. Talavera de la Reina Town Council reiterated this in a statement, confirming the death and stressing the prohibition of climbing the bridge.

The judge and forensic doctor have authorised the removal of the body, which has been taken to a funeral parlour. A post-mortem examination is pending
