Umueri Crisis Claim: False, Election to Hold April 8 - Says Anambra East Mayor By Nwegbo Ifeanyi  The Anambra East LG Chairman, Hon. Ifeanyi Chinweze, has denied allegations of a leadership crisis in Umueri General Assembly, calling the statement from Ikenga Umueri Unity Forum " false and misleading. Addressing journalists, Chinweze said Umueri is peaceful, with town union elections scheduled for April 8, 2026. He claimed Ikenga Umueri Unity Forum, which issued the statement, is actually frustrating the election with selfish motives.  He distanced himself, PG Chief John Metchie, and electoral committee chairman Barr. Eugene Aghaebe from the allegations, saying they were innocent. DSS ARRESTS FAKE NGO LEADER IN ABUJA. (PHOTO)

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday apprehended Kennedy Tabukoi in Abuja for allegedly leading an unregistered NGO, the Niger Delta Development Initiative (NDDI), in a scheme to blackmail government officials.

According to security sources, Tabukoi targeted officials with demands for money or contracts, threatening to organise protests against them if they failed to comply. One such protest took place on Thursday morning at the National Assembly gate, where Tabukoi led a demonstration accusing lawmakers of stalling a probe into the petroleum sector.

“Tabukoi had been boasting to his associates about using his alleged Niger-Delta activism to intimidate officials into doing his bidding,” a security source revealed.

“Ironically, those he sought to exploit were the ones who tipped us off, confirming he was running a sham NGO for personal gain.”

Investigations revealed that Tabukoi had no legally registered NGO and was using intimidation tactics to solicit funds and contracts.

During questioning by DSS operatives, he admitted to the allegations, explaining that he intended to register an NGO to emulate others who had profited from similar schemes.

The DSS has emphasized its commitment to curbing acts of blackmail and impersonation, warning against the misuse of activism for personal enrichment.

Further investigations into Tabukoi’s activities are continuing.
