 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  NYSC Applauds Demotion of Kwara Teacher Who Assaulted Female Corps Member


The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commended the Kwara State Government for demoting school teacher Hajia Fatimoh Nike Hamzat, who recently assaulted a female Corps member serving at Government Day Junior Secondary School in Kulende, Ilorin.


NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, praised the state government’s investigative panel for its fairness and adherence to the Public Service Rules. He emphasized that the NYSC will not tolerate any form of abuse directed at Corps members.


Ahmed reiterated that Corps members, as contributors to nation-building and national unity, deserve respect and proper treatment from their employers and host communities. He also reassured that the security and well-being of Corps members remain his administration's top priority.


He encouraged all Corps members to uphold their Oath of Allegiance and continue fulfilling their duties to promote national unity and socio-economic development.


The female Corps member was verbally and physically assaulted by Hamzat for allegedly failing to greet her properly. The incident was reported by the Corps member, prompting the NYSC to forward the complaint to the Kwara State Government. An investigative panel was set up, which recommended sanctions for the teacher.
