CHIKUN/KAJURU REP, HON. FIDELIX BAGUDU, ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTMENTS TO STRENGTHEN INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE. (PHOTO).
On May 12th, 27-year-old Courtney Brown was driving on Interstate 270 with her 8-year-old and 3-year-old children unrestrained in the passenger seat. Suddenly, Brown stopped her vehicle in the middle of the eastbound lane causing a series of events that would leave her children intubated, fighting for their lives, and land Brown in jail.
Immediately after stopping her vehicle in the middle of the busy interstate, Brown exited the vehicle. A motorist following behind Brown's car side-swiped the vehicle in an attempt to avoid a collision with another vehicle. After striking Brown's vehicle, the motorist stopped and exited the vehicle to check on Brown's vehicle. As the driver approached, he noticed two small children unbuckled in the passenger seat.
Just mere seconds later, another driver struck Brown's car sending the vehicle careening across the interstate and into the path of an oncoming car which also struck Brown's vehicle that was still occupied with unrestrained children.
After witnessing this horrific chain of events that left both of her children critically injured, Brown began to walk away from the scene. An officer who had already responded to the crash ordered Brown to stay on the scene. Brown ignored the commands and continued to walk away.
The lone officer chose to focus his attention on the critically injured minor victims of the crash and had to allow Brown to walk away.
Brown was arrested a short time later nearly a mile from the scene of the crash. Arresting officers reported Brown had blood shot eyes and confused speech but seemed "relaxed and calm" despite her children having just suffered serious injuries due to her actions.
A blood test administered at a nearby hospital revealed Brown had methamphetamine and cannabis in her system.
Courtney Brown was arrested and booked into jail where she has already posted $100,000 bond and was released. She is due in court for her preliminary hearing on June 2nd.
Both of her children remain intubated in critical condition at a St. Louis area hospital.
Our thoughts are with these two young children as they fight to recover. We hope they both have full recoveries.
