 Tragedy Averted as 120-Year-Old Ancestral Tree Falls at Obosi Market By Chiedu Okoye A major tragedy was averted at Eke Obosi Market in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State after a 120-year-old ancestral tree collapsed, destroying shops and goods but leaving traders and visitors unharmed. The massive tree, estimated to be about 150 feet tall, fell within the market premises, damaging at least 12 shops and valuable merchandise. Residents and traders described the incident as miraculous, noting that no lives were lost despite the extent of the destruction. The fallen tree held significant cultural importance as a sacred symbol of Eke Obosi Market, which is regarded as a stronghold of the traditions and cultural heritage of the Obosi people.  Abuja–Kaduna Road: Transport Employers Commend Uba Sani’s Intervention


Transport operators and their employees have expressed renewed optimism about the speedy completion of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano expressway following the intervention of Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.


In a statement on Sunday, the Kaduna State chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Hon. Adamu Zubairu Jalaludeen, praised Governor Sani for meeting with the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, to fast-track the completion of the project.


Jalaludeen, who also serves as RTEAN’s North-West vice president, described the expressway as a major gateway to the North-West and North-East geopolitical zones, critical for trade and movement across the region.


He noted that the governor’s proactive approach and engagement with the Federal Government had inspired confidence among stakeholders within the transport sector.


According to him, Governor Uba Sani’s decision to personally meet with the Minister of Works on this issue has endeared him to all stakeholders in the transport value chain.


Governor Sani had, on Friday, met with Engr. Umahi to review progress on the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano expressway as part of efforts to enhance intergovernmental collaboration and ensure timely delivery of the project.


Discussions at the meeting focused on accelerating work on the Abuja–Jere–Kaduna section of the expressway, a vital transport corridor relied upon daily by millions of Nigerians for business, travel, and social connectivity.


Governor Sani described the project as a national artery that plays a pivotal role in Nigeria’s socio-economic integration and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to modernize infrastructure and promote economic competitiveness.


In his words, “This expressway is not just a road—it is an economic corridor that connects people, markets, and opportunities across northern Nigeria and beyond.”


In response, Engr. Umahi commended Governor Sani for his commitment and constructive partnership. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to complete the project on schedule, revealing that contractors have been directed to work double shifts to hasten delivery without compromising quality.


The minister also assured that the adoption of durable concrete pavement technology would ensure the project’s long-term sustainability and reduce future maintenance costs.
