Trump issues pardon to former Republican congressman Stephen Buyer after insider trading conviction    President Donald Trump has issued a full pardon to former Republican congressman Stephen Buyer, who served nearly two years in prison after being convicted of insider trading tied to post-congressional consulting work. Buyer was sentenced in 2023 to 22 months in prison for illegal stock trades made while working as a consultant and lobbyist. He was ordered to forfeit more than $350,000 in ill-gotten gains and pay a $10,000 fine. He was released from custody in 2025 after his conviction was upheld, with the Supreme Court declining to take up his appeal earlier this year.  Bannon says ‘there is a plan’ for Trump to seek third term

Stephen K. Bannon, the pro-Trump podcaster and former White House chief strategist who was convicted of fraud in 2022, voiced his support for President Trump potentially seeking a third term, despite the constitutional two-term limit. In an interview with The Economist, Bannon claimed there is “a plan” to navigate around the 22nd Amendment, which bars anyone from being elected president more than twice. He hinted that he is involved in shaping that plan but declined to provide specifics. “Trump is going to be president in ’28, and people ought to just get accommodated with that,” Bannon said, adding that the details will be revealed “at the appropriate time.” He also referred to Trump as an “instrument of divine will,” echoing the president’s own language of elevated purpose.

Bannon’s remarks follow months of Trump publicly entertaining the idea of a third term, which some Republican leaders have dismissed as constitutionally impossible. Trump has long joked about being “president for life,” including circulating edited videos portraying himself as a king. Analysts suggest his musings about a third term may be a strategy to avoid appearing as a lame-duck president. Bannon, who left the White House in 2017 and has not always aligned with Trump, remains influential among far-right circles. He was a key figure in promoting claims that the 2020 election was stolen, and Trump has historically incorporated ideas from Bannon and other right-wing allies after initially distancing himself from them, such as adopting elements of the Project 2025 policy plan.
