 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  BENUE STATE POLICE RESCUED SIX CHILDREN,  RECOVERS 11 MOTORCYCLES AND FIREARMS


The Benue State Police Command says its operatives have arrested suspected Child traffickers and Rescued Six victims all under ten year children after intercepting their vehicle Orokam - Enugu. 

The three female suspects, all of Umude Oka Dunukofia, Anambra State.


The suspects were found on transit with six children, namely:

Amanda Chukwujekwu F, 8yrs, Chioma Maduagwu F, 8yrs, Oyechegi Kosisochukwu F, 9yrs,

Okonkwo Odinaka Chukwu F, 9yrs

Arinze Chukwu M, 7yrs

Oluchukwu Esther F, 9yrs.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the children were taken from Divine Peace and Grace Orphanage, Jos, Plateau State, under questionable circumstances, with the suspects claiming they were being transported to Anambra State. 

The children have been successfully rescued and are under protective care, while the suspects are in custody as investigations continue at the State CID.

The statement also adds, it has burst a criminal hideout and recovered stolen motorcycles and fire arm.

The Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Udeme, in a statement says the Police received a distress call regarding a reported stolen Bajaj motorcycle and through intelligence found it in a compound along George Akume Way, Makurdi.


At the scene, the operatives sighted eleven (11) suspected stolen motorcycles, forty-seven (47) motorcycle seats, fuel tanks, criminal charms, three (3) mattresses, One (1) single-barrel firearm, and other items and recovered them.


It further explains that two suspects escaped, but  were captured by members of the public opposite the BIPC Company along George Akume Way and lynched before the arrival of the police.  They were rushed to a Medical Facility, where they were confirmed dead by a doctor. 

Their remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary. 

The State CID has taken over the investigation.
