Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra Governor, has congratulated Ndi Anambra on the 35th anniversary of the creation of the state, describing the milestone as a celebration of resilience, greatness and hope.


Mrs Soludo, in a goodwill message issued to commemorate the anniversary, reflected on Anambra’s 35 year journey and the contributions of its people to the state’s growth and development.


She described Anambra as a land of promise and possibilities, saying the state had continued to be defined by enterprise, courage, resilience, culture and an unwavering belief in what could be achieved.


According to her, the strength of Anambra lies in its communities and the ingenuity of its people, whose determination, creativity and resilience have contributed significantly to the state’s progress.


She said the anniversary should also provide an opportunity to renew the collective commitment to building a state where every child could dream, every family could thrive and every community could look to the future with confidence.


“As Anambra marks 35 years of statehood, we must continue to build a state where every child can dream, every family can thrive and every community can look to the future with confidence,” she said.


The governor’s wife extended her goodwill to Ndi Anambra at home and in the diaspora, congratulating them on the anniversary and celebrating their contributions to the growth of the state, popularly known as the “Light of the Nation.”


She expressed optimism that Anambra would attain greater heights through the collective efforts, resilience and commitment of its people.


Mrs Soludo wished Ndi Anambra a happy 35th anniversary, urging them to remain committed to the values and ideals that had sustained the state throughout its journey.
