That’s Not Fair - Kim Kardashian Says Prisoners Who Fought L.A. Wildfires Were Paid 'Just a Few Dollars,' and She Wants to Change That A renewed push for prison labor reform is gaining attention, with Kim Kardashian stepping in to support new legislation aimed at changing how incarcerated workers are paid. The bill, reintroduced on March 19 by Cory Booker, seeks to ensure that people working while incarcerated receive at least the federal minimum wage. It also proposes limits on deductions for fees, fines, and living costs within correctional facilities, through amendments to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Kardashian, who has increasingly focused on criminal justice reform, explained that her support is rooted in what she witnessed during the Los Angeles wildfires.  “I personally watched incarcerated people who risked their lives battling the massive wildfires,” she said, pointing out that many were paid only a few dollars a day despite doing the same high-risk work as profess...

Karamai Community Appeals For Government Intervention After Years Of Displacement

Residents of Karamai community in Maro Ward, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State have called on the government to urgently intervene and help them return to their ancestral homes following years of displacement caused by bandit attacks.

According to community leaders, Karamai has been deserted since 2022 after repeated attacks by armed bandits forced residents to flee for safety.

Since then, many community members have been living as internally displaced persons (IDPs) across different locations, including Maraban Kajuru, Crossing, Kachia, Kateri, Kasuwan Magani, and Maraban Rido.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. Zaki Augustine, the community leader of Karamai, said the prolonged displacement has caused severe hardship for residents, many of whom have lost their homes, livelihoods, and access to farmlands.

“Our people have been scattered for over two years now. Life has been very difficult for families, women, and children living as IDPs. We are appealing to the government to come to our aid so we can safely return to our central home,” he said.

The community is calling on the Kaduna State Government and relevant security agencies to restore peace, provide adequate security, and support the resettlement of displaced residents back to Karamai.

Mr. Augustine emphasized that the people of Karamai are ready to return home if security is guaranteed, adding that continued displacement threatens the social and economic survival of the community.
