 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. BANDITS KILL 2 ABDUCTED WOMEN 'FOR RESISTING RAPE' IN KADUNA 


Two women abducted by suspected bandits in Kaduna State have been reportedly killed after resisting alleged sexual assault, despite their families paying N13 million ransom for their release.


The victims were among several residents kidnapped from Janjala community in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Sources said the abductors initially demanded N14 million for the victims’ release. After weeks of negotiations, families reportedly raised N13 million, which was delivered to the bandits at a location near Hayin Dam forest in neighbouring Kachia Local Government Area.


A local source told Daily Trust that while some of the captives were freed after the payment, the bandits withheld the male victims.


According to the source, the kidnappers later informed families that the two women had been killed.

“As the girls refused to allow the bandits rape them, their leader ordered them to be shot on the spot,” the source said.


The bandits were also said to have demanded an additional N1 million and food supplies for the release of the remaining captives.


A security source confirmed the killing of two women but declined further details.


A community leader in the area also corroborated the incident, describing it as “tragic and heartbreaking.”

The development adds to growing concerns over rising insecurity and kidnapping-for-ransom incidents across parts of Kaduna State.
