 Somali World Cup Referee Denied Entry to United States Award-winning Somali referee, Omar Artan, has been denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa, according to a senior official in Somalia’s sports ministry. Artan, who is set to become the first Somali referee to officiate at the FIFA World Cup finals, was stopped at Miami International Airport and subsequently returned to Istanbul, where he had been residing. The reason for the denial was not immediately disclosed. However, Somalia is among the countries affected by a travel ban introduced by the administration of Donald Trump.  GOVERNOR IDRIS MOURNS KEBBI ASSEMBLY SPEAKER MUHAMMAD USMAN ZURU


Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, describing it as a monumental loss to the state and the nation.


The Speaker, Muhammad Usman Zuru, died on Monday, April 6, 2026, at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been receiving treatment for a prolonged illness.


In a condolence message, Governor Idris said he received the news with shock and a heavy heart, noting that the late Speaker was a trusted ally, a committed lawmaker, and an outstanding leader.


He described the deceased as a pillar of legislative stability and democratic governance, whose dedication, humility, and wisdom earned him widespread respect across the state.


The Governor stated that the death of the Speaker has created a significant vacuum in the leadership of Kebbi State, adding that his calm disposition and commitment to unity and progress would be greatly missed.


Governor Idris prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, the State House of Assembly, and the people of Kebbi the strength to bear the loss.


Muhammad Usman Zuru, born on April 5, 1970, is survived by his wife and five children.
