Iran rejects latest ceasefire proposal
Iran has rejected the latest ceasefire proposal, insisting on a permanent end to the conflict, according to state-run IRNA. The Iranian government conveyed its position to the United States through Pakistan, a key mediator. Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour, head of Iran’s diplomatic mission in Cairo, said Monday, “We only accept an end of the war with guarantees that we won’t be attacked again.”
The rejection comes as U.S. President Donald Trump’s Monday-night deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz approaches. Trump warned that failure to comply would lead to strikes on Iran’s power plants and other infrastructure, prompting Iranian parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf to call the threats “reckless.” Trump is scheduled to address the situation from the White House on Monday afternoon.
Tensions escalated further as Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced an attack on Iran’s South Pars petrochemical plant at Asaluyeh. This follows a previous strike on South Pars facilities in March, which had triggered Iranian retaliation against oil and gas infrastructure in Gulf Arab states.
Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard also suffered key losses. Maj. Gen. Majid Khademi, head of intelligence for the Revolutionary Guard, was killed, with Israel claiming responsibility. Israel’s military said it also killed Asghar Bakeri, the leader of the Guard’s undercover Quds Force unit.
A coordinated wave of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Monday reportedly killed more than 25 people in Iran, prompting retaliatory missile strikes by Iran targeting Israel and its Gulf Arab neighbors. The region remains on high alert as diplomatic and military tensions continue to rise.
