Serena Williams falls to 20-year-old Maya Joint in Wimbledon return after nearly four-year singles absence Serena Williams showed flashes of the power and precision that defined her Hall of Fame career in her return to professional singles tennis Tuesday, but ultimately fell short in a three-set opening-round loss at Wimbledon. The 44-year-old Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, was defeated 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 by 20-year-old Australian Maya Joint in a match that lasted 2 hours and 22 minutes on Centre Court. It marked Williams’ first singles appearance in nearly four years, since the 2022 U.S. Open. Williams still produced trademark moments, including powerful serves and heavy groundstrokes that once carried her to seven Wimbledon singles titles. But Joint, ranked 87th, absorbed the pace and proved steadier on the biggest points, repeatedly finding angles that pushed Williams out of position. “I don’t know what just happened, to be honest,” Joint said afterward. “I didn’t get ...

My daughter wanted to name her brother Michael Jackson - Howie Mandel shares childhood story

A simple family memory turned into a funny story for Howie Mandel, and it all started with a name.

Speaking at the premiere of Michael in Hollywood, the comedian shared that his eldest daughter once had very strong opinions about what to call her baby brother.

She was just four at the time, but completely taken in by Michael Jackson.

According to him, she genuinely wanted her unborn sibling to carry the full name of the pop legend. Not just “Michael,” but Michael Jackson. That was how deep the admiration ran in their home back then.

Howie laughed as he looked back on it, noting that both he and his daughter were huge fans. The idea sounded wild, but it made perfect sense to a little girl who saw her idol as larger than life.

At some point, he decided to make her dream feel real, at least for a moment. He took her to meet Michael Jackson in person. But when the time came, everything changed.

The same child who had confidently picked out a name suddenly went quiet. Completely quiet.

“She couldn’t talk,” Howie recalled. “She was just frozen.”

He described the late singer as warm and kind during the encounter, gently trying to make the young girl comfortable. Still, the moment was overwhelming for her.

Looking back, Howie joked that he just wanted her to understand one thing clearly, that the man she adored was Michael Jackson, not her future brother.

Over the years, that father and daughter bond has grown into something deeper. Today, they even share a creative space together through their podcast, a project that started during the pandemic as a way to stay connected.

Their relationship hasn’t always been smooth. Both have spoken openly about living with OCD, which at times created tension, especially when she was younger. There were moments of strictness, worry, and misunderstandings.

But time has softened those edges.

Now, they meet each other with more understanding, more laughter, and a shared history that includes everything from childhood obsessions to grown-up conversations.
