Enugu Theft Accuser Changes Story: "No CCTV Footage" After Man Brutally Beaten in Jungle Justice

A young man identified as Ekene Agala is recovering from severe injuries after being subjected to brutal "jungle justice" by estate security personnel following a theft accusation that has since unraveled, according to updates shared by human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu.

The incident reportedly occurred in an estate in Enugu, where Agala was accused by a woman of stealing ₦2 million from her residence. The accuser initially claimed to have supporting CCTV footage, prompting estate security and others to physically assault him without further investigation or involvement of formal authorities. Graphic images and videos circulating online show Agala with extensive facial swelling, bruises, and injuries consistent with a severe beating.

In a recent update posted on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Gwamnishu revealed that the woman's story has changed. She now admits there is no CCTV footage and instead attributes the allegation to a young child who allegedly witnessed the act.

"What happened to Ekene Agala is a painful reminder of why we must never rush to judgment," Gwamnishu stated, emphasizing the dangers of mob action based on unverified claims.

He announced plans to initiate legal processes to secure justice for Agala and noted gratitude that the victim survived the attack.
