Billy Ray Cyrus’ ex-wife, Firerose, has accused him of “narcissistic abuse” following their split in May 2024 after seven months of marriage. The 64-year-old country star, now dating actress Elizabeth Hurley, has faced repeated claims from Firerose that he isolated her from loved ones.
However, her parents, Stephen and Debbie, dispute those allegations, telling Page Six that Cyrus never cut her off from family.
Instead, they say Firerose severed ties with them back in 2020, leaving them heartbroken and eager to reconnect.
The couple’s short-lived marriage has been marked by mutual accusations of emotional mistreatment. Firerose alleged in court documents that Cyrus controlled her communications and restricted visits from friends and family, while
Cyrus denied those claims and countered that she was verbally and physically abusive toward him. Firerose’s representatives clarified that her isolation comments referred to friends, not her parents, with whom she has had no contact for over a decade.
Her parents, meanwhile, emphasized the support they gave her early in her career, funding her move to Los Angeles and covering acting school and living expenses.
Firerose, born Johanna Rosie Hodges, has faced personal struggles, including addiction and a 2016 arrest that led to her sobriety. She began dating Cyrus in 2022, and the pair collaborated musically, even envisioning themselves as “the next Sonny and Cher.”
They married in October 2023 but divorced less than a year later, with Firerose reportedly receiving nothing in the settlement. Her parents say her lifelong dream has been stardom, and while her marriage to Cyrus brought publicity, they remain pained by her estrangement.
Despite the controversy, they insist they only want the best for their daughter.
