“Not all Kutis use narcotics” — Afrobeat singer Made Kuti addresses family misconception Afrobeat singer, Made Kuti, has dismissed the misconception that all members of the Kuti family use narcotics.  Speaking with TheCable on the sidelines of the United States mission’s 250th Independence Day celebration in Lagos, the singer said many people wrongly assume he and his relatives use drugs. “A lot of people think I smoke, but I don’t, and even my dad has quit. So, there is a big misconception that the family are all into narcotics, but most of us are not,” he said. When asked to describe himself in three words, Made chose “hardworking, loyal and passionate,” adding with a joke that “loyal” fits because “I’m a married man”. When asked which Nigerian artiste he currently listens to, Made named his grandfather.

My Parents Never Needed My Fame to Survive - Miley Cyrus Finally Clarifies

Looking back at the whirlwind that was her Hannah Montana years, Miley Cyrus is choosing clarity over long-held assumptions.

In a recent conversation with Variety, the 33-year-old spoke candidly about growing up on set and the role her family played behind the scenes. One thing she made clear, her success was never a financial lifeline for her parents.

“My parents didn’t need me to be famous to survive or to be stable,” she said. “That was never my job.”

She pushed back on a narrative often attached to child stars, where families depend heavily on a young performer’s income. In her case, she said every dollar she earned stayed hers, a decision she credits to her parents’ guidance.

Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, was more than just her on-screen dad. He was physically present throughout the show’s run, keeping a close eye on everything happening around her.

Miley recalled how their dressing rooms were connected, with her grandmother, Loretta “Mammie” Finley, stationed nearby managing her fan club from a makeshift office.

“There was never a time where I was going to be alone,” she shared, underscoring the protective environment her family created.

Away from the spotlight, getting the role itself was not as straightforward as it may seem now. Miley revealed she initially lost out after her first audition tape. It took another year, and an in-person tryout in Los Angeles, before she finally secured the lead role of Miley Stewart.

The casting process also brought an unexpected twist for her father. At the time, Billy Ray was juggling work between Canada and Tennessee.

During auditions for the role of Robby Ray Stewart, he nearly talked himself out of the job.

“He goes outside, finds other dads, and tells Disney, ‘You should hire this guy,’” Miley recalled with a laugh.

Behind him, her mother, Tish Cyrus, had a very different reaction.

“She’s squeezing his back like, ‘Shut up, we need you to get this role so we can all move here.’”

In the end, the decision felt natural. Miley believes what sealed it was the genuine bond they already shared.

“You can’t fake the kind of connection that we have,” she said, pointing to their shared jokes, music, and rhythm as a family. “We knocked ’em out.”
