GOVERNMENT OF RIVERS STATE   PRESS STATEMENT  MY DECISION TO WITHDRAW FROM THE RIVERS  STATE  GUBERNATORIAL PRIMARIES  Fellow Rivers People, After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries. Chief Of Defence Staff Appears Before Investigative Panel

Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor is currently before the Special Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations in the counter-Insurgency Operations in the North-East.

General Irabor’s Appearance before the panel came on the heels of reports by Reuters news agency accusing the Nigerian military of carrying out thousands of forced abortions and massacring children in the North-Eastern part of the country.

Nigerian Army had earlier denied running any operation called “Operation no living thing” in any part of the country.

A former Garrison Commander, 7 Division, Maiduguri, Brigadier-General Haruna Abubakar Garba, had, in his own appearance before the Panel, flatly denied the allegations, insisting that “Operation No Living Thing” only took place in Sierra Leone during the West African country’s civil war.
