Residents of Ankuwa Community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State have raised serious concerns over escalating insecurity in the area, calling for immediate government intervention to address persistent attacks by armed bandits and kidnappers.
In an open letter addressed to the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, the community described Ankuwa as being under siege, with frequent cases of kidnapping and killings reported at different times of the day.
According to the letter, farmers are unable to access their farmlands, while roads linking Ankuwa to Kachia town have become unsafe and largely impassable.
Residents also lamented that movement between neighbouring villages now poses significant risk, with families living in fear amid alleged ransom demands by criminal elements.
The community, through its representative J. P. Akunji Obar, expressed concern over what it described as inadequate security presence in the area.
While noting that local youths are willing to defend their communities, the letter emphasized the need for lawful structure, coordination, and official security support to confront heavily armed attackers.
Among the key requests made to the state government are the immediate deployment of security personnel to Ankuwa and surrounding villages, the establishment of four permanent security outposts or a Joint Task Force base at strategic locations within the community, intensified patrol and surveillance operations along the Ankuwa–Kachia road corridor, and direct engagement between government officials and community leaders to develop long-term security measures.
The letter appealed to the governor to take swift and decisive action to prevent further loss of lives and restore peace, stability, and economic activities in the affected communities.
