Malian army withdraws from key Tessalit military camp: sources Mali’s army and its Russian mercenary allies have surrendered Camp Tessalit, a strategic military post in the north, multiple sources told the AFP news agency on Friday. An official from the Tuareg-led separatist group claimed soldiers and mercenaries at the camp had "surrendered", following a fierce fight over the weekend. Simultaneous attacks in Mali by militants linked to Al Qaeda and separatist Tuareg rebels on April 25 showed how fighters from different groups with different goals were able to strike at the heart of the West African country's military government. Gunfire and explosions were reported in the capital Bamako and around a large military base outside the capital, as well as Gao and central areas, as gunfire continuing in the northern city of Kidal.  Ankuwa Community Raises Alarm Over Insecurity, Appeals To Gov. Uba Sani For Urgent Intervention

Residents of Ankuwa Community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State have raised serious concerns over escalating insecurity in the area, calling for immediate government intervention to address persistent attacks by armed bandits and kidnappers.

In an open letter addressed to the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, the community described Ankuwa as being under siege, with frequent cases of kidnapping and killings reported at different times of the day.

According to the letter, farmers are unable to access their farmlands, while roads linking Ankuwa to Kachia town have become unsafe and largely impassable.

Residents also lamented that movement between neighbouring villages now poses significant risk, with families living in fear amid alleged ransom demands by criminal elements.

The community, through its representative J. P. Akunji Obar, expressed concern over what it described as inadequate security presence in the area.

While noting that local youths are willing to defend their communities, the letter emphasized the need for lawful structure, coordination, and official security support to confront heavily armed attackers.

Among the key requests made to the state government are the immediate deployment of security personnel to Ankuwa and surrounding villages, the establishment of four permanent security outposts or a Joint Task Force base at strategic locations within the community, intensified patrol and surveillance operations along the Ankuwa–Kachia road corridor, and direct engagement between government officials and community leaders to develop long-term security measures.

The letter appealed to the governor to take swift and decisive action to prevent further loss of lives and restore peace, stability, and economic activities in the affected communities.
