By May 2026, Langton Gumira liked his life — but it hadn’t always been that way. He and his wife were two of an estimated one million Zimbabweans who had fled to South Africa in the mid-2000s. When they arrived in 2006, Zimbabwe was in crisis: inflation over 1,000%, empty shops, no fuel or electricity, and many displaced by 2005’s Operation Murambatsvina. “I loved my country.  Burkina Faso army 'neutralises' over 400 terrorists in counter-offensive strikes Burkina Faso’s armed forces say they repelled coordinated attacks by armed groups on several military positions on June 30, killing more than 400 attackers during counteroffensives supported by airstrikes. In a statement issued late Wednesday night, the General Staff of the Armed Forces said the attacks targeted positions of the National Armed Forces (FAN) and the Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP) in the localities of Gayeri, in the Sirba Region, and Solhan and Sebba, in the Liptako Region, TRT Afrika reported. According to the military, ground units, backed by air assets, responded immediately to the assaults. The army said it conducted targeted airstrikes and ground combat that "neutralised more than 400 terrorists” and enabled the recovery of a large cache of equipment, including more than 250 motorcycles, 353 weapons of various calibres, ammunition, and communication equipm...

 NIPSS SECURITY OPERATIVES FOIL ATTEMPT TO BREACH ITS PERIMETER, ONE SUSPECT KILLED  The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, security  operatives have successfully foiled another attempt by unidentified armed assailants to breach the Institute’s security perimeter . A statement by Osime Samuel Head, Public Affairs National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru says, the attackers engaged security operatives in a gun duel but were forced to retreat following the swift and coordinated response of the security forces.  One of the assailants was neutralised during the encounter, while others were reported to have escaped with varying degrees of injuries.  Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has appointed prominent African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his official spokesperson, weeks after Okonkwo publicly criticised the party’s choice of vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. Okonkwo announced the appointment in a statement posted on Thursday on his verified X account, expressing gratitude to Atiku for the confidence reposed in him. “I give God all the glory to be appointed by His Excellency Atiku Abubakar as his Spokesperson. I thank HE AA for the immense confidence reposed in me,” he said.
