Bayelsa Medical Doctor Dies After Successfully Delivering Triplets

A medical doctor with the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Dr. Ere Ogbachi, has died following complications after giving birth to triplets in Bayelsa State.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, with the doctor passing away at about 2:45 am at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.

Her brother, Meshack Sintei, announced the death in a Facebook statement on Wednesday, describing the painful loss to the family.

According to the family, Dr. Ogbachi successfully delivered the triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri. However, complications set in shortly after the delivery, necessitating her emergency transfer to the ICU at FMC Yenagoa.

“We watched her struggling to live, we watched her gasping for breath, we watched how the team of doctors and other experts in FMC kept trying their best to revive her,” the family statement read.

It added that her oxygen saturation level (SpO2) dropped sharply during the emergency response, falling from 70 to 50 and eventually to 0 on the monitoring machine.

Sintei described his late sister as “a fighter to the end” and expressed deep sorrow over her passing.

“It was a painful experience… my beloved sister died at exactly 2:45 am on April 14th, 2026. A generation has been lost, and the Sintei family mourns,” he said.

He also appreciated the support and condolences from friends, colleagues, and well-wishers.

Until her death, Dr. Ere Ogbachi was a dedicated medical doctor, registrar at NDUTH, member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), and an alumna of Niger Delta University. She is survived by her husband and the newborn triplets.
