LAGOS STATE SPORTS COMMISSION INTRODUCES MEASURES TO ATTRACT MORE INVESTMENTS

... Says Opportunities Abound for Investors In Lagos

A deliberate push to formalise and unlock the economic value of sports in Lagos is gathering pace, as the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) rolls out a framework designed to attract, track, and sustain investments across the sector.

The move signals a shift from episodic sporting activities to a more structured, investment-driven ecosystem with clear entry points for entrepreneurs, private capital, and community stakeholders.

At the heart of the initiative is a coordinated effort to map sports assets, standardise engagement processes, and create visibility for investment opportunities spanning joint venture facility development, streamlined operational processes for franchise-based local leagues, and institutional backing for startups in sports tech, fitness and well-being, media, and analytics.

The Commission outlined plans to deploy data-driven tools that will capture participation trends, infrastructure gaps, and commercial potential across different sporting disciplines in the State.

Speaking further on the initiative, Director-General of the LSSC, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, described the framework as a necessary step in repositioning sports within Lagos’ economic architecture.

In his words, "We are deliberately transitioning the Lagos sports narrative from mere recreation to serious economic value creation. Talent is abundant in this State, but talent without an underpinning business ecosystem is unsustainable. These new measures are engineered to de-risk the sector for institutional investors while creating highly fertile ground for sports technology innovators, apparel manufacturers, and franchise owners to scale their operations within Lagos."

The DG maintained that the institutional shift aligns with the broader economic direction of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, where sports is positioned as a driver of youth engagement and enterprise.
