Mexico agrees to host Iran’s World Cup team after U.S. declines to accommodate squad, Sheinbaum says    Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Monday that Mexico has agreed to host the Iranian national football team during the upcoming World Cup after the United States declined to accommodate the squad. Sheinbaum said the decision followed a request from FIFA, which sought an alternative arrangement after U.S. officials indicated they did not want Iran’s team staying in the country for the duration of the tournament, even though Iran is scheduled to play all of its group-stage matches on U.S. soil. “We have no reason to deny them the possibility of staying in Mexico,” Sheinbaum said during her daily press conference, adding that Mexico accepted the request in coordination with tournament organizers.  FRSC Advises Motorists To Use Alternative Route Amid Abuja–Kaduna Traffic Gridlock

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists travelling along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway to use the Kachia–Bwari alternative route due to heavy traffic congestion ahead of the Eid el-Kabir celebrations.

In a statement released in Kaduna, the agency explained that the gridlock was caused by increased holiday travel, ongoing road construction and recent rainfall, all of which have slowed movement on the highway.

Kaduna Sector Commander, Corps Commander Andrew Longkam, identified the Nasarawa Azara section between Katari and Jere as the worst affected area, with vehicles moving slowly and commuters experiencing long delays.

He also attributed the congestion to poor driving behaviour, including impatience and disregard for lane discipline among some motorists.

According to the FRSC, additional personnel have been deployed to the affected areas, while the corps is collaborating with the Nigerian Army and other stakeholders to improve traffic control.

Despite these efforts, traffic remains heavy, prompting the agency to urge motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and obey road safety regulations.

Drivers travelling from Kaduna to Abuja were advised to take the Kachia–Maraban Kubacha–Jere–Bwari–Dutse route, while those travelling from Abuja to Kaduna should follow the same route in reverse.

The FRSC further warned against dangerous overtaking and driving against traffic, stressing the importance of lane discipline and ensuring vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on trips.

Motorists were also encouraged to avoid night journeys where possible, obey speed limits and comply with all traffic regulations.

The corps reaffirmed its commitment to safer roads, improved traffic flow and reduced accidents during the festive season and beyond.
