Abia State Inaugurates 35-Man Team to Enforce Relocation of Commercial Buses to Umuahia Central Terminal

The Abia State Government has launched a 35-man enforcement team to ensure the smooth relocation of all commercial buses into the newly established Umuahia Central Bus Terminal, also known as the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal.

Inaugurating the team in Umuahia on Saturday, the Commissioner for Transport, **Chimezie Ukaegbu**, stressed that the enforcement exercise, which commenced on **June 13, 2026**, is aimed at sanitising transport operations and restoring order, safety, and compliance across motor parks in the state.

Ukaegbu issued a strong warning against any form of brutality during the operation, directing the team to treat drivers, conductors, and transport operators — including those referred to as “agberos” — with respect and humanity.

“I did not ask any of you to intimidate or hurt anyone,” the Commissioner stated. “We don’t want a situation where some will stay in the terminal while others stay outside. We want to work in uniformity.”

He urged all transport operators in Umuahia to fully comply with the relocation directive, describing it as being in their best interest.

In response, the Chairman of the enforcement team, **Uchenna Umekwe**, expressed gratitude to the state government for the appointment and commended Commissioner Ukaegbu for his measured approach to transport-related matters.

Umekwe assured the government and the public that the team would operate strictly within the law and in line with the policies guiding the exercise, pledging not to disappoint the expectations placed on them.
