As part of activities commemorating Nigeria's 2026 Democracy Day, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, distributed 1,000 brand-new motorcycles to primary school teachers in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The empowerment programme, held at the Nuhu Bamalli Mini Stadium in Zaria, attracted thousands of teachers, education administrators, government officials, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders.
Addressing participants at the event, Speaker Abbas said the initiative was aimed at improving the welfare of teachers and addressing transportation challenges that often affect their effectiveness in the classroom.
He described teachers as critical drivers of national development and emphasized the need to support them through practical interventions.
According to the Speaker, the motorcycle distribution forms part of his broader commitment to strengthening the education sector and enhancing the living conditions of educators.
He noted that similar empowerment programmes have been implemented since he assumed office, benefiting teachers across various communities.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed gratitude for the support, describing the motorcycles as a timely intervention that would ease their daily commute and improve access to their places of work.
