The Commissioner made the call on 4th September 2026 while receiving the Association of Presidents-General of Communities in the State. He noted that the Presidents-General occupy strategic positions in their respective communities and therefore have a crucial role to play in supporting the Police and other security agencies in the fight against criminality.  Marwa mourns fallen officer as NDLEA arrests 6 suspects in bloody Bonny Island raid, Recovers cache of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, tramadol ABUJA – Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have raided a notorious drug enclave known as Ama Hausa in Bonny Island, Rivers state where six suspects were arrested and a significant cache of illicit substances, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol was recovered.  An NDLEA personnel, Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid, however lost his life as a result of severe head injuries sustained when the drug dealers mobilized armed hoodlums to attack operatives during the raid. Notwithstanding the violent attack, the NDLEA operatives were able to apprehend all the six targets of the raid including the gang leader, Genesis George Benson, who is responsible for the death of the NDLEA operative.  In a major legislative shift following days of intense "Occupy NASS" protests, the Nigerian Senate has amended Clause 60(3) of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026. The new proposal aims to balance the demand for modern transparency with the practical realities of Nigeria’s technological infrastructure. According to the latest proposal, the Senate has agreed that electronic transmission will serve as the primary method for uploading election results. This marks a significant change from previous versions of the bill where such transmission was largely discretionary. However, the amendment includes a critical "safety valve": All polling unit results must first be transmitted electronically to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).  In the event of network issues or technical failures that prevent electronic transmission, INEC is legally permitted to revert to manual transmission of results. The arrival of the larger regional jet marks a significant expansion phase for the airline, which launched operations in July 2025.  National Opposition Movement Protest Over Electronic Transmission & Tax Reform Day two of protests continued at the National Assembly by a coalition of civil society groups, youth organisations, and pro-democracy activists under the banner National Opposition Movement. The demonstration targets the electronic transmission clause in the proposed Electoral Act amendment and the implementation of a new tax law. Among the protesters, a former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung wanted the Senate’s position on electronic transmission of election results be amended. The group insists that failure to clearly provide for electronic transmission could undermine the credibility of future elections. Protesters also cited worsening economic hardship, which they attribute to the new tax reform law.

 Presidency Directive: Customs Officially Reopens Tsamiya–Segbana Border Post In Kebbi The Nigeria Customs Service has officially reopened the Tsamiya–Segbana border post in Kebbi State, linking Nigeria with Benin and the Niger Republic. This is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to reopen the border post to boost regional trade and strengthen border security.  Usman Abdullahi Shehu reports that the reopening also which follows high-level engagements between the three countries is already easing the movement of goods across the borders.
