Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. Fresh updates bring renewed optimism for Benue women stranded in Libya.


Families of all victims in Nigeria have been contacted, and arrests have already been made in connection with the trafficking ring. Authorities plan to transfer the case to NAPTIP Benue Command by tomorrow for further action.


Meanwhile, the Association of Tiv in Libya has traced 2 of the 7 victims, offering them medical care, feeding, and safe accommodation, with access to legitimate jobs. The Nigerian Embassy in Libya is now fully involved in the ongoing rescue operation.


The main suspect, Ms. Joy Aondokaa, is expected to be arrested in Libya soon.


Victims who wish to return home will be repatriated, while those choosing to stay legally will be protected and properly documented under the supervision of the Tiv Association.


A coordinated rescue mission is finally taking shape reigniting hope for the daughters of Benue stranded abroad.
