Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes handed six-month driving ban Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has been handed a six month driving ban after he racked up two convictions in the space of two days. The 51-year-old was caught speeding in a Range Rover in March while on a late-night drive through Cleckheaton in West Yorkshire. West Yorkshire Police brought a prosecution over the incident, as Scholes’ car had been clocked at 37mph on a 30mph stretch of residential road. The ex-England star was also taken to task by Greater Manchester Police after a Mercedes registered in his name was caught driving at 49mph in a 30mph zone in November last year. Scholes was then prosecuted for failing to respond to two police letters asking for confirmation that he had been the speeding driver.  GOV. ALIA DECLARES TOTAL WAR ON INSECURITY IN BENUE

The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has vowed to end insecurity in the state, promising a decisive clampdown on banditry and other criminal activities.

Governor Alia made the declaration while receiving a briefing on the deployment and reinforcement of security personnel to troubled communities in Kwande and other affected Local Government Areas. The move comes amid a surge of attacks that have disrupted lives and livelihoods across the state.

Commending the efforts of the security agencies, Governor Alia said their tireless work in restoring calm had not gone unnoticed. He emphasized that perpetrators of insecurity would face the full weight of the law. "Let this be a warning to all perpetrators of insecurity: Governor Alia will not be intimidated. I will not be deterred. I will crush insecurity in Benue State," he declared.

The Governor stressed that the recent security reinforcement is just the beginning of a broader effort to restore peace and protect citizens’ lives, farms, and communities. He assured residents that his administration is fully committed to leaving no stone unturned in ensuring safety across the state.

Speaking on the initiative, Chief Solomon Iorpev, Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, noted that the government’s proactive stance reflects its determination to protect the people. "The additional deployment of security personnel signals a new phase in our fight against insecurity. The state government will ensure that all communities can live and work without fear," he said.

Eyewitnesses in Kwande expressed cautious optimism following the arrival of reinforced security units. Mrs. Rebecca Anger, a resident of the affected area, said, "We have lived in fear for too long. Seeing security officers back in our communities gives us hope that normal life can return."

Governor Alia further reiterated that his administration will not relent despite resistance from criminal elements. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to pursue justice and safeguard lives, warning that any individual or group seeking to disrupt peace will be relentlessly pursued.

As Benue grapples with rising insecurity, this latest deployment marks a clear signal from the state government that maintaining law and order is now a top priority. Residents are being urged to cooperate with security agencies while the state steps up measures to restore lasting peace.
