 LASG MAKES LASRRA NUMBER MANDATORY FOR SCHOOL ENROLMENT The Lagos State Government has made registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) compulsory for enrolling learners in all public and private schools in the state, beginning with the 2026/2027 academic session. Under the new directive, schools must obtain and record each learner's valid LASRRA registration number as part of the admission and enrolment process from Monday, September 14, 2026. The directive, approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, is being implemented through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) as part of the state government's efforts to establish a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners in Lagos. ABSU Lifts Suspension of Professor Who Said Keke Drivers Earn More Than Varsity Profs Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), has lifted the sûspension of Professor Nnamdi C. Nwaeze of the Department of Economics and recalled him back to work with immediate effect. The decision followed a written plea by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-ABSU) to the management of the university. In a letter dated September 3, 2026, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Dr. Joy Nwankwo, the university management said the suspension was lifted following the plea from ASUU-ABSU. However, the university made it clear that the decision was “without prejudice to the extant investigative panel,” which is already investigating an earlier issue involving the professor. Management also stated that it is still awaiting the panel’s ultimate report, indicating that the lifting of the suspension does not bring the ongoing investigation to an end.

 TROOPS OF OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA NEUTRALISE TERRORIST, RECOVER FOUR MOTORCYCLES IN KATSINA Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, neutralised a terrorist and recovered four motorcycles and other items during a dawn offensive operation in Dan Musa Local Government Area of Katsina State on 4 September 2026. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the general area of Yantumaki Forest, troops conducted a coordinated offensive against the terrorists. Troops engaged the terrorists with maximum firepower, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bushes.  Niger blames France for failed military mutiny Niger has blamed France for inciting an attack on a key military airbase by mutinous soldiers last week, according to a government statement read on TV. Mutinous soldiers in the West African country attacked the airport and the presidency in the capital, Niamey, on August 29. Explosions and gunfire also rang out at a military airbase, but Niger's army regained control over it. The Council of Ministers on Friday concluded that the attack had been incited by a vast network of accomplices led by France, according to the statement, AFP reported. "A substantial body of evidence has been compiled regarding this attack, and Niger reserves the right to bring the matter before international courts," the government said in the statement.
