We Had No Idea What We Were Doing - Khloé Kardashian Reflects on Dash Beginnings

Khloé Kardashian is taking a look back at how everything started with Dash, and by her own account, it was far from polished.

Speaking on The Morgan Stewart Show on SiriusXM, the reality star said she and her sisters, Kim Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian, stepped into business without much experience when they launched the boutique in 2006.

“We didn’t know what we were doing,” she said plainly.

At the time, their focus was simple, they just wanted the store to work. The idea of reality television was not part of the plan. When their mother, Kris Jenner, suggested doing a show, they initially turned it down.

“We were like, ‘We’re not doing this,’” Khloé recalled.

But Kris found a way to shift their thinking. She told them to see it differently.

“She said, ‘Think of it as a commercial for the store,’” Khloé explained, adding that it was exactly the kind of push they needed since the business was their main priority.

Behind the scenes, the early days of Dash were hands on in every sense. There were no staff members, no structured system, just the sisters figuring things out as they went.

“It was just me and Kourtney,” she said. “We did everything, cleaning, taxes, steaming clothes. There was no team. We were learning as we went.”

Funding the store was another leap of faith. Khloé shared that they used a credit card that had originally been tied to their late father, Robert Kardashian, who passed away in 2003.

The card eventually transitioned into Kourtney Kardashian’s name, giving them access to a $50,000 limit, which at the time felt huge.

“We thought it was insane,” Khloé said. “We bought clothes and just went for it.”

Even decisions like choosing a location came down to instinct rather than strategy.

“We didn’t know anything about buying or location,” she admitted. “We just lived in Calabasas and thought, ‘Let’s try it.’”

Despite the uncertain start, Dash grew over the years, expanding into cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Miami Beach. The boutique also became part of their public image as their reality television presence grew.

After more than a decade, the sisters decided to close the business in 2018. Khloé said the journey left behind lasting memories, even if it began with trial, error, and a lot of learning on the job.
