Trump unveils $100 bill featuring his signature as new currency design moves forward

President Donald Trump has shared the first image of a redesigned $100 bill featuring his signature, following a Treasury Department announcement that a sitting president’s name would appear on U.S. currency for the first time.

The new design shows Trump’s signature alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s signature. Traditionally, U.S. paper currency has displayed the signatures of the Treasury secretary and the treasurer of the United States.

Officials previously described the change as part of a commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. The addition of Trump’s signature is separate from a larger effort by some lawmakers to create a new $250 commemorative bill featuring Trump’s portrait.

A proposal to place Trump’s image on currency faces legal challenges because current law generally prohibits portraits of living individuals from appearing on U.S. money. Existing rules require people featured on currency to be deceased, though lawmakers have introduced legislation that would create an exception for current and former presidents.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said he does not view the idea of adding Trump’s portrait to a commemorative bill as inappropriate and noted that early design preparations have been considered in case such legislation moves forward.
