A North Carolina husband was stabbed in the neck while waiting in his car at the grocery store. When the deranged man began running towards his wife, he hit the gas.
Our story's hero is choosing to remain anonymous, but we do not need his name to know he's a bad @ss.
On Sunday, August 31st, this ordinary father and husband dropped his wife off at the entrance to the Food Lion in Mocksville, North Carolina.
He found a parking spot and began the usual boring wait.
However, as he and his children sat in the car waiting on mom to finish shopping, they would soon learn that this trip to the store would be anything but boring.
At around 8:30 p.m., a deranged man seemed to materialize from nowhere with violent intent.
Despite the presence of young children and without any warning, the man (who was later identified as 36-year-old Eric Burgess) attacked.
Eric Burgess reached straight through the cars window and st@bbed the father/husband in the neck and lower face.
After the violent @ssault, Eric Burgess turned and walked back to his own vehicle leaving the father/husband bleeding heavily from his wound. There was no provocation. There was no reason. This was just a random, senseless attack.
Despite the dramatic attack our hero kept his cool and made sure to not upset the children. He called his wife, who was still shopping and told her that he had been st@bbed.
He then began to slowly drive towards the entrance to pick her up so he could seek medical assistance and notify police. As his wife exited the store and he was pulling towards the entrance, he saw something that made his stomach drop.
Eric Burgess had left his vehicle and was running straight for the unsuspecting wife with the blade.

In that moment, husband switched to hero. As Eric bore down on his wife, the hero-husband floored the gas. Before Eric could reach his wife, the husband made a direct hit with the vehicle, sending Eric flying to the ground.
After being struck by the vehicle, Eric Burgess jumped up and ran into the grocery store.
Deputies with Davie County Sheriff's Department quickly arrived on the scene and began to search for Eric Burgess. They soon found him cowering behind the deli counter inside of the Food Lion.
Eric Burgess was arrested and booked into the Davie County Detention Center on charges of @ssault with a d*adly weapon with intent to k*ll.
The husband's injuries were treated and determined to be non-life-threating.
