Kate Middleton and Prince William rejected a castle Queen Elizabeth saved for them that came with a “nightmare” problem

Before settling into Forest Lodge, William and Kate had the option of living at Fort Belvedere, a historic estate in Windsor Great Park once tied to monarchs like Queen Victoria and Edward VIII.

Though Queen Elizabeth reportedly reserved the property for them, the couple declined. Experts suggested the castle carried negative energy from a Feng Shui perspective, making it a less than ideal family home.

Instead, the Prince and Princess of Wales relocated with their three children to Forest Lodge in the fall of 2025, after three years at Adelaide Cottage.

Their new residence, a Georgian mansion with eight bedrooms valued at $21 million, offered a fresh start after a difficult period marked by Queen Elizabeth’s death, cancer diagnoses for both Kate and King Charles, and William’s strained relationship with his brother Harry.

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith described Adelaide Cottage as a place of “pain, suffering, and sadness,” making the move understandable. Kate later announced her cancer remission in January 2025, while Charles continues treatment.

Meanwhile, William and Harry may be on the path to reconciliation following Harry and Meghan’s return to the U.K. in August, signaling a possible easing of family tensions.
