 LASG MAKES LASRRA NUMBER MANDATORY FOR SCHOOL ENROLMENT

The Lagos State Government has made registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) compulsory for enrolling learners in all public and private schools in the state, beginning with the 2026/2027 academic session.

Under the new directive, schools must obtain and record each learner's valid LASRRA registration number as part of the admission and enrolment process from Monday, September 14, 2026.

The directive, approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, is being implemented through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) as part of the state government's efforts to establish a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners in Lagos.

Alli-Balogun said the initiative was part of the government’s broader strategy to develop a reliable and verifiable database of learners that would improve planning, monitoring and service delivery across the education sector.

He said capturing learners on the LASRRA database would also improve record-keeping in schools, strengthen learner identification and verification, facilitate tracking and provide government agencies with credible data for evidence-based decision-making.

Under the new arrangement, schools have been directed to include each learner’s LASRRA registration number in admission and school records and to sensitise parents and guardians on the requirement.

Schools are also expected to advise parents whose children or wards are yet to register with LASRRA to complete the process ahead of the new academic session.

The government, however, directed schools to ensure that learners’ personal information is handled confidentially and securely in accordance with applicable data-protection standards.

Also speaking, the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Dr. Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said his office, in collaboration with Lagos State Resident Registration Agency (LASRRA) and other relevant agencies, will develop modalities for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners, while sensitisation, registration and verification support will be provided to schools, parents, guardians and learners.

Dr. Ogunmuyiwa stated further that compliance with the directive would form part of OEQA monitoring and quality-assurance activities across public and private schools in the state.

He consequently urged parents, guardians and school proprietors to ensure that their children, wards and learners are registered with LASRRA before the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session, stressing that the requirement is mandatory.
